PUBLIC NOTICE IS HEREBY given to the electors of the District of Port Hardy that an election by voting is necessary to elect a Mayor and six Councillors, and that the persons nominated as candidates and for whom votes will be received are:

Mail Ballot Voting

Qualified electors may vote by mail if they:

  • have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote at another voting opportunity, OR
  • expect to be absent from the District of Port Hardy on general voting day and at the times of all advance voting opportunities.

 

REQUESTING A MAIL BALLOT PACKAGE:

 

Applications for a mail ballot will be received between September 14 and October 18 at 4:00 pm. Please contact the Chief Election Officer in person at: Municipal Hall 7360 Columbia Street Port Hardy, by mail: PO Box 68 Port Hardy, BC V0N2P0, by fax: 250-949-7433 by email: hnelson.smith@porthardy.ca

 

IMPORTANT DEADLINE:

 

For your ballot to be counted:

It is your responsibility to post the mail ballot addressed to the Chief Election Officer in sufficient time for delivery to the District of Port Hardy by 4:30 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018.

OR

As provided in the Local Government Act, a mail ballot must be hand delivered to the Presiding Election Official before the close of voting on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 20, 2018) at the District Office 7360 Columbia Street Port Hardy, BC in order to be counted for the election.

 

Elector Registration

If you are not on the list of electors, you may register at the time of voting by completing the required application form available at the voting place. To register you must meet the following qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
  • Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
  • resident of OR registered owner of real property in the District of Port Hardy for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.To register, resident electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature). The identification must prove both residency and identity.To register, non-resident property electors must produce 2 pieces of identification (at least one with a signature) to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and, if there is more than one owner of the property, written consent from the other property owners.
