Port Hardy Aquatic Centre Bounce Back Plan
October 16, 2020
District Council and staff are excited to announce a new bounce back plan for the Port Hardy Pool!
With so much hard work from Council, staff, consultants and community we are sad to say that we have been unsuccessful in obtaining the funding for a new North Island aquatic facility. Council and staff have taken another look at this project, knowing that our current pool is in desperate need of major repairs and have reviewed our options. With the current pandemic and the future economic stability in mind we have determined that a retrofit of the existing facility is appropriate at this time for the District.
The District of Port Hardy is notifying electors of the intention of Council to adopt “Port Hardy Aquatic Centre Renovation Loan Authorization Bylaw 1117-2020.” The purpose of the bylaw is to borrow an amount not to exceed $2,300,000 to finance the District’s portion of the estimated $8,500,000 renovation project of the Port Hardy Aquatic Centre. The District is seeking contributions for 73.33% of the project cost from Provincial and Federal grant funding.
Eligible electors of the District of Port Hardy may register their opposition to the debt financing of the Aquatic Centre Renovation project; by obtaining, signing, and returning an Elector Response Form no later than 4:30pm on Monday, November 23, 2020.
Elector Response forms, a copy of Bylaw 1117-2020 and additional information on the renovation project and the Alternative Approval Process are available at the District Office located at 7360 Columbia Street. Forms may also be downloaded from the District’s website at porthardy.ca, by sending an email to email@example.com or by calling (250) 949-6665. Elector Response forms must be submitted on the form established. Other forms of objection will not be considered. Take notice that unless 10% or 277 electors in the District of Port Hardy file a notice of objection by 4:30pm on Monday, November 23, 2020 that the District of Port Hardy may proceed with borrowing for the proposed purpose.
