    Homeowner Grant

    The Province of British Columbia is now delivering the Homeowner Grant program. BC municipalities are no longer accepting Homeowner Grant applications. All eligible home owners are now required to claim their grant directly with the Province. This can be done online or over the phone at 1-888-355-2700.

     

    The Homeowner Grant MUST be claimed on or before July 2nd in order to avoid a penalty on the Homeowner Grant portion of your current year taxes. Claiming the grant is NOT dependent on payment of taxes!

    What you need to do to claim the Homeowner Grant

    The following information is needed to complete your claim, have the below information at hand before beginning your application:

      1. Roll Number – Located on the tax notice. *See notes below.
        * NOTE: The Roll No. should be entered in the following format 00000.000
        * NOTE: Don’t have an 8-digit Roll No.? Add a zero ‘0’ in front!
      2. Port Hardy’s Jurisdiction No. is 334.
      3. Your Social Insurance Number (SIN).

    For information on the Property Tax Deferment program, visit the Government of British Columbia Property Tax Deferment website.

    Who Is Eligible For The Grant?

    B.C. residents who own and reside in the property as their principle residence are eligible to apply for the grant. You and your spouse together may qualify for one grant on one residence in B.C. in any one calendar year, even if you live in separate residences (unless you are legally separated).

     

    Do I Need To Apply For The Homeowner Grant If My Taxes Are Included In My Mortgage Payment?

    Yes. Claim the grant on or before the tax due date to avoid penalty. All Homeowner Grant applications, regular (basic) and additional (senior, veterans, persons with disabilities, living with a spouse or relative with disabilities) are now required to be made directly to the Province at www.gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.

    I Applied Last Year, Do I Need To Apply Again This Year?

    Yes. All eligible home owners must apply every year.

     

    if not applying online, how else can i claim my homeowner grant?

    The best time to apply is after you receive your property tax notice in the mail and before your property tax due date.

    1. Wait to receive your property tax notice in the mail.
    2. Keep your property tax notice on hand. It has important information needed to apply.
    3. Call the Province at 1-888-355-2700 to apply by phone.
