The District of Port Hardy provides residential garbage and recycling pickup and disposal services via its contractor, Fox’s Disposal Ltd. Please note that arrangements for garbage and recycling services for multi-family residential developments are made directly by the owners of these developments. This latter arrangement also applies to non-residential developments.
WEEKLY CURBSIDE PICK-UP BEGINS MAY 6, 2024
Weekly curbside garbage pick-up begins May 6, ends October 25. Each week, property owners/occupants will be able to place ONE (1) can of garbage out on their regularly scheduled collection day for pick-up. Curbside recycling will continue with collection every other week.

No problem, drop into the District Office Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm to pick up a ticket for an extra container of garbage to be picked up on garbage day.
The following materials will not be picked up:

- Hazardous waste (including asbestos)
- Batteries
- Tires
- Appliances
- Cardboard (put out with you recyclables…not garbage)
- Flammable waste (including grease)
- Contaminated soil
- Scrap metal
- Construction waste
Have Asbestos Waste? Ensure your waste is properly packaged prior to disposal!
These and other materials may be accepted at the Fox’s Disposal Ltd. transfer station site at 5990 Steel Road in Port Hardy (250-949-6306), the Port Hardy Return-It Centre at 8740 Main Street in Port Hardy (250-949-7700), or the 7 -Mile Landfill & Recycling Facility on Highway No. 19 (250-949-1681). Please call these facilities first to ensure they will accept the materials you wish to bring to them.

2024 ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN-UP WEEK
The District’s Annual Spring Clean-Up Week is set to return May 7-11, 2024. Port Hardy property owners/occupants can drop-off eligible items for disposal at the Tacan site (5990 Steel Rd., Port Hardy) for FREE! Be sure to confirm your items before loading the truck!
Seniors and persons with disabilities can register for item pick-up by calling the (250)-949-7779 between Tuesday, April 29 – Friday, May 3. Space is limited!
ADOPT A STREET!
We are excited to announce the Adopt-a-Street program. By signing up, participants will volunteer to clean a street in Port Hardy twice monthly, for two years. Building community spirit and pride, this initiative is a great opportunity for individuals, families, a business or organization to help keep our community clean and beautiful year-round.
Participants will be provided equipment and details at Public Works, following which a sign acknowledging their commitment to the program will later be placed on their street.
