Water & Sewer Utilities Operator 1

The District of Port Hardy invites applications for the position of a full time Water & Sewer Utilities Operator 1 in the Operational Services Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, a Water & Sewer Utilities Operator I is responsible for operating the facilities and equipment within the Water and Wastewater Treatment Facilities, Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Systems. This position will be able to perform required scheduled maintenance, laboratory analysis, chemical batching and dosing adjustments, SCADA operation and other day-to-day activities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Maintain and operate facilities to uphold operating permits and ensure the safety of the environment
  • Performing laboratory sampling, testing and analysis
  • Reading flow meters, collecting data and data entry
  • Performing calibration and quality assurance/quality control for online and laboratory instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of SCADA operations and process controls
  • Performing regular maintenance and emergency repairs on utility systems
  • Identifying and reporting issues to the Utilities Supervisor
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and regulations
  • Rotational on-call shifts
  • Assists with and/or operates heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, vacuum excavators, skid steers, and single-axle dump trucks.
  • Work with and/or direct contractors while on site to ensure effective and safe installation and repairs of facilities and equipment.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

This is a Union position with a wage rate of $32.87 (2024 rate), plus benefits as per IUOE collective agreement.
