Mail Ballot Voting

Qualified electors may vote by mail if they:

  • have a physical disability, illness or injury that affects their ability to vote, OR,
  • expect to be absent from the District of Port Hardy on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 20, 2018) and at the times of all Advance Voting Opportunities (October 10 and October 18 &19, 2018).

Requesting a Mail Ballot Package

Applications may be obtained either in person from the District of Port Hardy 7360 Columbia Street, Port Hardy, BC V0N 2P0 , by email at hnelson.smith@porthardy.ca or by downloading the Application for mail ballot form.

Applications may be submitted: in person, by mail ( PO Box 68, 7360 Columbia Street, Port Hardy, BC V0N 2P0), by fax to 250-949-7433, or scanned and emailed to hnelson.smith@porthardy.ca Upon receipt of a complete application, your name will be added to the list for mail ballot packages.  A mail ballot package will be mailed to you as soon as possible after October 1, 2018.

If you are applying for a mail ballot package after October 2, 2018, please contact the Chief Election Officer at 250-949-6665 as special arrangements may be necessary due to time constraints.  Applications will not be accepted after 4:00 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2018.

 

Eligibility to Vote

To vote by mail a person must meet all voting requirements for voting in a municipal election as a resident elector or as a non-resident property elector as of the date the mail ballot is completed and posted.

You must:

  • be on the List of Registered Electors in order to vote by mail or
  • apply to register to vote in conjunction with submission of the mail ballot, in which case you must complete the necessary registration application that is part of the mail ballot package.

Important Deadline

It is your responsibility to post the mail ballot addressed to the Chief Election Officer in sufficient time for delivery to the District of Port Hardy by 4:30 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018.

OR

As provided in the Local Government Act, a mail ballot must be hand delivered to the Presiding Election Official before the close of voting on General Voting Day (Saturday, October 20, 2018) at the District Office 7360 Columbia Street Port Hardy, BC  in order to be counted for the election.
