We offer Sensory-Friendly Event Times to help make our celebrations more accessible and enjoyable for individuals with sensory sensitivities.
✨ During these times, we lower music and sound levels, soften the lighting, and limit crowds to create a calm and comfortable environment.
🤗 These sessions are specifically for individuals with sensory sensitivities and are not open to the general public, ensuring a supportive space for those who need it.

Out of respect for our fellow District colleague and friend, our Port Hardy Recreation facility will be closed on Wednesday, September 24.
All programs and rentals will not be running this day.
Operations will be opened again on September 25.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of our friend and colleague, Robert (Bobby) King. For over 25 years, Bobby’s smile, kindness, and dedication were a cherished part of the District of Port Hardy.
He will be dearly missed but never forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and all who knew and loved him. 💙
Flags will remain at half-mast until after his service on September 24.
Municipal Services will be suspended on Wednesday, September 24, and will reopen on September 25- thank you for your understanding.
🌟Job Opportunity: Community Outreach Coordinator (Temporary – Maternity Leave Coverage) 🌟
The District of Port Hardy is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Community Outreach Coordinator to join our Port Hardy Recreation team on a temporary basis to provide maternity leave coverage for up to 18 months for our beloved Katie. This is a full-time CUPE Local 401 position (40 hours per week).
📅 Start Date: October 20, 2025 (with two weeks of cross-training)
💵 Wage: $27.44/hour (January 2025 rate)
📋 Benefits: Medical, extended health, dental, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and accidental death & dismemberment, as per Employer’s policies on Employee Benefits.

Working alongside our other Community Outreach Coordinator, you’ll be behind the scenes with administrative work, the face of recreation through programs and events, and a driving force in building connections across the community.
💡 We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has a passion for connecting with the community and enjoys working with people of all ages—especially children.
- Has a strong ability to supervise program assistant staff during programs and events.
- Brings excellent organizational skills and can follow systematic procedures.
- Is detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects at once.
- Can prioritize competing demands and meet tight deadlines.
- Create content for social media, posters and Recreation Guides with Canva.
- Keep up to date with District policies and procedures, and is willing to attend training as required.
Most of all—enjoys having fun, is a team player and brings fresh ideas and energy to the role!
