    How much do I owe for taxes/utilities?

    We do not give out tax and utility information over the phone. You may come to the Municipal Hall and ask in person or contact us in writing via E-mail: reception@porthardy.ca

    What is the Seniors discount for utilities?

    25% off the regular quarterly billing only and when paid by the due date.

    How can I pay my taxes and utilities?

    Payment options include:

    • By postdated cheque (your cheque must be received by the deadline date to avoid a penalty)
    • In person at Municipal Hall, 7360 Columbia Street, with cash, cheque or debit card
    • Through your financial institution’s online or telephone banking service
    • Online with a major credit card (for a fee) CITIZEN CLOUD

    Note: we do not accept credit card payments at the Municipal Hall

    When is Garbage/Recycling Collection on my Street?

    Does Port Hardy have watering regulations?

    Yes. Stage 1 is in effect in each year from May 1st to September 30th with restrictions by even /odd address and time of day. Please keep an eye on this page to see when the restrictions change.

    Does Port Hardy have open burning restrictions?

    Yes. Burn Permits are required and have specifications regarding size, location and prohibited materials. All Provincial fire bans effective within the Coastal Fire Centre apply within the District of Port Hardy boundaries. There is no ‘Fog zone’ anymore, so even if you are on the beach outside of the boundary, the ban applies.

    Contact the Port Hardy Recreation Department at 250/949-6686 to book the pavilion.

    Where do Coal Harbour, Quatsino, Winter Harbour or Holberg residents pay taxes?

    Residents of these communities pay taxes or mail their taxes to Service BC, 8785 Gray Street, Bag 11000, Port Hardy, BC V0N 2P0. The local telephone for the Service BC office in Port Hardy is 250/949-6323 or Fax: 250/949-6153 or contact the Surveyor of Taxes at the address or phone number provided on your rural tax notice.

    When is recycling and garbage picked up in Port Hardy?

    Recycling and garbage are collected on alternating weeks—recycling one week, garbage the next. Your specific pickup day remains consistent each week. During the summer we increase garbage pick up to help reduce wildlife conflicts. To determine your collection schedule, please consult the calendar

    Am I limited to the one recycling container provided to me?

    No, you may use additional recycling containers of the same type as the one provided; there is no limit. However, the two-container garbage limit remains in effect.

    What should I do with recycling items that cannot be picked up at curbside?

    Materials such as glass, polystyrene foam, electronics, and plastic bags cannot be collected curbside. Please take these items to the appropriate recycling facilities to ensure they are processed correctly.

    Are Short Term Vacation Rentals permitted in Port Hardy?

    Owners of residential property may apply for a Short term Vacation rental. Note that only one vacation rental is permitted per property and only one in the District of Port Hardy per property owner. Operators risk loosing their ability to host on sites like VRBO and Airbnb if operating without a valid business license.
