The cleaning was completed last night, and the pool began filling today at a rate of approximately 1 inch per hour. We anticipate it will take about 4 days to reach full capacity. The next steps involve the liner contractor on-site for equipment commissioning and staff training from Tuesday to Saturday. Following that, the mechanical contractor is scheduled for commissioning and training in the subsequent week. We are currently awaiting dates for the final inspections and health approvals. Stay tuned for further updates.
We are still waiting to confirm the pool’s fill date and coordinate the commissioning with all the agencies required. We will keep posting updates as we find out more information. Still looking for lifeguards!
We’re thrilled to announce that the pool project is nearing completion! Our two dedicated contractors are working together to wrap up the final stages. The liner installation is almost finished, and the mechanical systems are nearly ready to be activated. The synergy between the two is crucial for a seamless operation.
Anticipating great news, we hope to confirm the pool’s filling date around January 31, with the process expected to take up to 4 days. Following this, thorough testing will be conducted, troubleshooting and potential repairs if needed and then the regulatory agencies, including engineers, architects, and Island Health, can be called to inspect the systems, barring any issues with the scheduling it is expected to take 2-3 weeks.

Nelson Roofing and Sheet Metal arrived onsite on June 5 to demolish the HVAC systems. Mechanical systems and rooms are being prepped for construction. Electrical contractors will be on-site to remove the lighting and prepare to install the electrical upgrades. The next phase is moving along. The contractor has been tasked with contractors on how we can still open in September with a temporary dehumidification system in place… stay tuned…
A little bit of downtime this month while materials are sourced. The liner is shaping up, and IPC LTD is waiting to return to complete more work as the Mechanical and Electrical contractor sets up and gets ready to demo their portion of the Pool infrastructure in June; this includes the lighting, electrical, HVAC system and mechanical room preparation. Timelines are established for the contractors, with the completion of most of the work in the first half of September. The one item we will be waiting for is the dehumidification system, which is set to arrive mid to late October, with installation complete in November. What does this mean? Staff are going to work with our engineers to see if we can still be opened in September with a temporary dehumidification system in place. We are committed to getting you back in the splash zone as fast as possible, as long as feasible. You are probably wondering if the old system can be used temporarily; unfortunately not, it was completely non-functional when the pool closed in June of 2021.

The District awarded phase two of the Project to Ketza Pacific. Phase two includes electrical, mechanical and HVAC upgrades
We are currently in the Request for Tender stage for the Port Hardy Pool Mechanical and Electrical upgrades, currently posted on BC bid with a closing date later in January. Once these bids are received, evaluated and awarded, the District will be able to provide a better timeline for you and your families to get excited about.
The liner work has begun, and it is estimated that it will arrive in mid-February. The concrete work has already started to prepare the pool tank for the new steel liner, gutter system and equipment. Seeing construction starting to support recreation in the community is pretty exciting.
