Port Hardy Turns 60 – Diamond Anniversary Celebration

This year, the District of Port Hardy proudly celebrates 60 years since its incorporation as a municipality. This Diamond Anniversary is more than a birthday—it’s a chance to honour the people, stories, creativity, and history that have shaped our community, while recognizing that our history reaches far beyond 60 years.

Territorial Acknowledgement

The District of Port Hardy acknowledges that we are located on the traditional territories of the Kwakiutl People, and our neighbouring Kwakwaka’wakw Nations, including the Gwa’sala-’Nakwaxda’xw, Quatsino, and Tlatlasikwala Nations, who have lived on and stewarded these lands and waters since time immemorial. ‘Gilakas’la

What have we got planned?

Event Coordination

We have hired an Event Coordinator, Belen Becker, who will be helping us all celebrate throughout the year… so far, we have some great stuff planned.

Community Storytelling Project: Our Port Hardy

📅 March – September

Community members are invited to share a photo and a short story capturing a memory of Port Hardy—past or present. These stories may reflect post-incorporation life as well as pre-incorporation history, helping us learn more about the place we call home. Selected submissions will be featured in a visual art display to be shared with the community.

Youth Art Contest

📅 March – April

Local youth are invited to express their creativity through an art contest celebrating Port Hardy’s past, present, and future.
